About Us – Our Story

Le Casaline di Sopra is now a farmhouse in the green woods near Massa Marittima, with a long history behind it.

The ‘Le Casaline di Sopra’ farm has been owned by the family since the mid-19th century; until the early 1970s it was inhabited by a family of farmers who tended the woods, cultivated part of the land as arable land and raised sheep, calves and pigs.

This farm is also well described with plans and some photos in Renato Biasutti’s book ‘La casa rurale in Toscana’ of 1938.

In recent decades, the buildings that characterise ‘Le Casaline’ have gone through a period of neglect and for the past ten years or so, the family has decided to revive them by keeping their structure intact to preserve the spirit of the original building on which one of the stones used to build it bears the engraving ‘A.d. 1846’.

The restoration and securing of the building involved special technical choices and in the end the result is the rebirth of the Casaline di Sopra, which has come back to life, becoming one of the most charming holiday farms in Massa Marittima.

Now the agritourism is modernised but with the flavour of the classic old Tuscan farmhouse, surrounded by meadows and woods of holm oaks, turkey oaks, hornbeams, holly trees and many other woodland essences.

The family, who live not far from the farm, manages the woodland and is beginning to reclaim farmland that had been left uncultivated for decades.
